I’ve been looking for a steak recipe and came across this.
In 1982, what was supposed to be a fun and relaxing family camping trip turned into a gruesome, senseless mass murder that still haunts BC residents to this day. A family of 6, spanning across 3 generations, were brutally killed in one of Canada’s worst crimes in history.
This is the story of the Johnson/Bentley Family Murders

I’m not sure why I haven’t done more hiking in the winter. Perhaps I’ll give it a shot this winter.
“When there’s snow on the ground, I like to pretend I’m walking on clouds”
Takayuki Ikkakn
Winter doesn’t seem like an ideal time to get exercise, right? The ground is slippery, the air is chilly, and all the snow is falling off the branches and inside your jacket. Well, I can agree that it’s not as easy to step outside, but with a few additions to your gear, you’ll be crestfallen on the days you can’t head outside!

Here are some general tips for hiking in winter :

Clint continues to amaze me with his longevity
By John Corrado
★★ (out of 4)
Cry Macho, the latest film directed by Clint Eastwood, finds the veteran actor and filmmaker appearing in front of the camera once again, following his much touted “final role” in the 2018 film The Mule, to deliver what is now said to be his actual swan song as an onscreen performer.
Based on a 1975 novel of the same name by the late author N. Richard Nash, this film adaptation has been in and out of development for decades, before Eastwood finally decided to direct and star in it last year. The result is a somewhat stilted late career effort from Eastwood, that isn’t actively bad as much as it is just extremely bland.
Eastwood stars in the film as Mike Milo, an old rodeo star in Texas who is hired to to drive to Mexico City and retrieve a boy…

Great stuff here
From allaboutjazz.com
It’s out again, and affordable. But shame on Sony/Columbia for ignoring this essential recording for twenty years, resulting in prohibitive collectors’ prices. This was Brubeck-Desmond’s greatest period, before the comparatively sterile, more formulaic studio albums, includingTime Out(Columbia, 1959). And shame on those (including this writer) who ever dismissed this recording as too white, too fay, too square, too distant from the “authentic” jazz tradition. The music is squarely in the tradition—soulful, in the moment, unrepeatable.
As far as the 1950s public was concerned, two alto players mattered: Charlie Parker and Paul Desmond; and after Bird’s death in 1955, only Desmond and Julian Adderley. Although Desmond occasionally reaches higher on the earlier At Oberlin (Fantasy, 1953), Jazz Goes to College, which is the group’s first recording for Columbia records, is above all his date—a consistently stirring testimonial to an artistry that remains sui generis.

Great article and a cool website for anyone who is into the American Civil War!
Besides Winchester, one of the most well known Civil War battles to take place in the Shenandoah Valley – thanks to some Hollywood magic – is the battle at New Market on May 15, 1864. And the most famous aspect of the battle is the charge of the Virginia Military Institute cadets across the muddy field. The movie “Field of Lost Shoes” has sparked the imagination of moviegoers and budding historians. While the movie definitely stretches the truth in some respects, few can be unimpressed by the cinematic grandeur of that fateful charge, and the stories of the young men who tug at the heartstrings of the viewers.
However, as most historians know, it’s rarely a good idea to get their history from a movie, whose producers and writers may be more concerned with box office proceeds and ratings.
In the spring of 1864, the new commander of all Union…
