JWST Is On Its Way! — Universe Today

Today He’s Good

He wants to be with her

He lost everything when she left

There is such a thing as too much solitude

He sits; it’s easier this way

His old bones creak and grumble with each movement

His thoughts, especially of her, loop over and over again in his fragile mind

He’s sick; a sobering diagnosis

Treatment an option in technical terms only

It’s not an option mentally

He can’t do it; he saw her do it

Box seats to an excruciating ensemble

All for maybe a few more years

Of what?

So we make the most of the time left

Marathon phone conversations that sharply narrow the gap of more than a thousand miles of distance

He’s normal, jovial, talkative

The same old stories; the ones I’ve heard for 30 years

I can tell them myself by now

But he enjoys telling them

They’re classics; at least in our circle

The talks are therapeutic; Relief that he is still him

There will come a day when things will be different

The stories will cease

He won’t be able to tell them

But he’s at peace with that

And I am too

Today he’s good

And so am I

Shucks, I missed Chocolate Covered Anything Day!

Lindsay's Cooking Adventures's avatarLindsay's Cooking Adventures

Tomorrow (December 16) is Chocolate Covered Anything Day. I’m celebrating with a super simple and healthy snack!

These are cute little peanut butter and banana sandwiches that are dipped in chocolate. You can dip the whole thing in chocolate but I liked the look of having it half/half.

I don’t even know if I can call this a recipe because it is so simple to make. It’s just a couple slices of banana with some peanut butter in between then dipped in melted chocolate. I used semi-sweet chocolate but you could use milk chocolate instead. I also added a little coconut oil to the chocolate to give it extra shine and crunch when you bite into it.

Biting into one of these is such a good experience. You should definitely let it sit out for a few minutes before digging in because the banana will be very frozen. But once…

The Beatle Bandit by Nate Hendley

jessleonamae's avatarTrue Crime Index

Nate Hendley’s The Beatle Bandit: A Serial Bank Robber’s Deadly Heist, A Cross Country Manhunt, and the Insanity Plea that Shook the Nation (Dundurn Press, 2021) is a sad and shocking tale about Matthew Kerry Smith, a twenty-four year old man who robbed a bank in North York, Ontario in 1964 while wearing a Beatle wig. During his mad dash from the bank, Smith was confronted by bank patron Jack Blanc. The two exchanged fire and Blanc was killed. This murder and robbery prompted the largest manhunt in Toronto Metropolitan Police history.

Hendley’s text does an excellent job of not only outlining Smith’s case, trial, and the aftereffects of both, but also does a great job of giving his reader a sense of what life was like in 1960s Toronto. At the beginning of his text, he outlines what life was like in Canada both socially and politically. I really…

I really like what the Bengals have accomplished thus far this season.  But not this week.

Concert Review – Bob Dylan – Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour

Great review!

Jim S.'s avatarMusic Enthusiast - At the junction of rock, blues, R&B, jazz, pop,and soul

I have been a Dylan admirer for about as long as I can remember, probably for just a little less time than I’ve been following the Beatles. Somehow I managed to blow numerous opportunities to see him, especially one where he appeared with Van Morrison that I still kick myself about.

He continues to tour and I pretty much avoided going as I just hated his “smoker’ cough” voice and what I understood to be radical reinterpretations of his own catalog. What changed my mind recently was watching his streamed concert that I wrote abouta short while back. I came to like his new crooner voice and i thought the stream – which was effectively a long-form music video – was excellent.

So when I heard he was coming to town and I could get an orchestra seat (20 rows back) for about 100 bucks (88 Euros) I said…
