Book Review: “Ghost Hunting” by Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson

Jennifer Elwyn's avatarInvestigative Curiosity

This book was published in 2007 and I likely read it for the first time in 2008. If you are like me, you are probably very familiar with the “Ghost Hunters” from SciFi (as it was known back then) and learned a lot of what you know about investigation from the TAPS team. You also likely know what TAPS looks like today. I wanted to do a reread of this book and see if it still hits me the same way it did back when the gang was still together. Honestly, it was kind of sad because you can see the cracks that likely were not apparent back then.

Would I recommend this book? Yes and no. This book has a lot of short reflections on investigations from Jason’s point of view which can be interesting. Most of these stories are about 4-6 pages long. Some are longer depending on…

The Disappearance of Brendan Santo

Stories of the Unsolved's avatarStories of the Unsolved

EARLY LIFE:

Brendan Thomas Santo grew up in Rochester Hills, Michigan, where he graduated from Rochester Adams High School. While in school, he was an avid hockey player and member of Rochester United, a team made up of students from Rochester Adams and Rochester high schools.

According to his aunt, Dawn Brewer, Brendan had a kind heart and was known for helping those in need, especially young children who needed a mentor. He also had a “zest for life”, which he showed through his quick wit and love for making people laugh. As such, he had many close friends.

Brendan was an intelligent and athletic young adult who loved playing lacrosse and hockey. At the time of his disappearance, he was a freshman at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, with hopes of getting into cyber surveillance or a computer-related career field.

Mt Van Hoevenberg-12/13/2021

Not far from where I reside. Perhaps one to put on the to-do list.

hikingtheTrailtoYesterday's avatarHiking the trail to yesterday

Lake Placid NY

Mt Van Hoevenberg is best known for its Olympic facilities on the north side of the mountain. The bobsleds and Olympic skiing are legendary worldwide. Recently the mountain has seen many improvements including a cliffside coaster that follows the route of the 1932 & 1980 Olympic bobsled course. A new 3.6-mile trail (known as the East Trail) leads from the Olympic facility to the summit of Mt Van Hoevenberg. There is no end of fun and cool things to do there.

I surpassed all of that. Not that I have anything against those things, but I wanted to stick to the “old” route known as the South Meadow Trail. I hope to make the trek along that trail soon.

I have not been on the South Meadow Trail for at least 20 years and wanted to revisit it. The weather was extremely windy and rain-filled over the…
