Nelson Mandela is freed.

After spending 27 years in prison for fighting the South African Apartheid government, African National Congress (ANC) leader Nelson Mandela walked out of Victor Verster prison, holding his wife Winnie’s hand and cheered by huge crowds. The event was broadcast live around the world.
